Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it
(Marian Wright Edelman)
Church of the Ascension CE Primary School is positioned in the heart of the village community and we are proud to represent the community we live in, which we believe reciprocally help us to learn with love and flourish in faith.
Remembrance
We, as a school and community, proudly remembered those who gave their life in conflict on the Remembrance Sunday. This saw many of our current and past pupils smartly dressed in their various uniforms from Scouts, Guides, Squirrels, Beavers, Rainbows and Brownies marching through the village to Church of the Ascension, accompanied by their families to participate in an outdoor service. A wreath with a verse written by one of our Year 5 pupils was laid by Mrs Mason on behalf of our school.

The week leading up to this had seen our children focus their learning on this important time, producing powerful artwork and moving poetry. The following week saw our Year 6 children, as part of their residential trip, being able to visit the Cenotaph in London, where one child read their poem aloud.

Contact
Contact is our local parish magazine, which is published quarterly. Throughout the year, children from across our school contribute towards each issue. This offers our children the opportunity to have a wider audience for their thoughts, prayers, poems and reflections. We also enjoy reading those of others as well. Thanks as always go to those who work so hard to produce this.
Wall Heath Parks Community Group
“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.”
(Helen Keller)
What started as an injustice being raised in a geography lesson by a group of Years 5 and 6 became a driver for change in our local community. In this lesson, the children spoke fondly of their local public spaces, yet suggested how unfair it was that there was no access for children of all ages and abilities.
We soon realised that we could not do this alone, so with lots of help from governors, local leaders and fantastic parents – the Wall Heath Parks Community Group was formed. Meetings were hosted at school and children, who were in the School Council at the time, spoke about their role in such an important project.
Fast forward three years after much fundraising and ideas from all local children, the play area in Albion Street has been replaced with a wider variety of play equipment offering more access for children of all abilities. Now, the group continues to strive to improve more of our local spaces here in Wall Heath. Thank you to all those, who work so hard on these valuable community projects.
