Year 5 and 6 British Science Week Challenge

British Science Week Challenge – Year 5 and 6 -The scientists from UCL need your help!

Choose an indoor public space where you often spend time – this could be an area where you learn, or a place you visit regularly like a library, café or cinema.

Do you think the air in this space is healthy and clean? Why?

Come up with an idea or invention to change the air in your chosen space, making it healthier to breathe. How will it work? Could it be used in other public places too?

You might come up with a brand-new idea, or you might like to think about a new way of using something that already exists.

The researchers at UCL have considered lots of different ideas for improving air quality and preventing the spread of viruses in hospitals. For example, you could think about face masks, curtains and screens, ventilation, fans or air filters. You may like to do some research into how viruses spread to give you some ideas. Have a think about the science behind your idea. How will it work? How will it be made and used?

Make your poster – think about how you present your idea to make sure it is clear and easy to understand. You could create a diagram or set of instructions, or you might like to develop an eye-catching poster! Will you include pictures, graphs or other illustrations?

Entries must be A4 or A3 in size so it can be sent online for judging.

Girls Dudley 6 a-side Finals

Having qualified through the local competition for the finals day, our girls competed in the event today. A flying start saw us qualify second from our league and then ultimately finish seventh overall. There were sixteen teams at the finals day with forty three schools originally entering the competition. A great effort enjoyed by all the girls – well done!

Mother’s Day Sale

The H.S.A will again be hosting a Mother’s Day sale on the afternoon of Friday 28th March if children would like to take part.

Reception Parents

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we have ‘Book Wish List’ boxes in school where children can write the name and author of a book that they would like us to buy for their class book corner. Could we ask parents of Reception children if they would like to write these for their children and send them into school with them?

Thank you for your support.

World Book Day 2025

Don’t forget World Book Day is tomorrow, Thursday 6th March 2025!

Bring in your book to swap and send in a photograph of you reading in an unusual place!

Digital World Book Day tokens have been emailed to you. These can be printed to use in a shop or you can scan the barcode on your phone in store.

Ash Wednesday

Some of our staff received the sign of the cross in ashes from Father Chris and Mother Sarah in celebration of Ash Wednesday.

School Lunches

Could we remind parents to book their child’s lunch at least 24 hours beforehand. If a child requests a lunch and it hasn’t been pre-booked then they will be offered a sandwich. Menus are now available to book on Eduspot until the end of the half term. Thank you for your support.

Elections

We have been informed that there are no scheduled elections this year so school will not be closed for voting in May as it usually is.
